Celebrating the Ra’ed Project

Empowering Young Women in STEM

Irbid, Jordan – October 24, 2024

The Ra’ed Project for Public School Girls Empowerment in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) proudly announces the graduation of 576 young women from public schools in Jordan. This project, named after the late Ra’ed Al Saheb, aims to provide educational and leadership opportunities for young women while challenging societal stereotypes.

The graduation ceremony featured honored guests, including Her Excellency Yael Lempert, the United States Ambassador in Jordan, representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Queen Rania Center for Technology and Information. Families and supporters gathered to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.

Designed by WA, and launched in 2021 with generous funding from the U.S. Department of State, the Ra’ed Project initially started with a small cohort of 144 students in one district in Irbid. In 2022, the project was scaled to cover 432 more students in two districts in Irbid. Both cohorts served underprivileged public school female students, grades eight to ten, to receive 48 academic hours of hands-on workshops and classes focused on building and coding Arduino UNO micro-robots, as well as interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.

Beyond technical skills, the project focused on personal growth, equipping graduates with confidence, resilience, critical thinking, leadership skills, as well as a practical toolkit to counter negative societal stereotypes against women and young girls, and their participation in ICT and STEM fields. As the Ra’ed Project concludes, it leaves a legacy of empowerment, preparing these young girls to pursue careers in ICT, STEM and to inspire future generations.

The Ra’ed Project serves as a powerful example of community support and educational impact, reshaping the roles of women in STEM in Jordan.
